April 15 Late Start Day Cancelled

The Dearborn Public Schools announce two very important calendar updates for all students, staff, parents, and community members.

Students and staff will report to school at the regular start time on April 15, 2015.  The date was originally scheduled as one of nine late start dates held during the school year.  The late start is being cancelled to avoid any distraction that may interfere with students taking the new state required M-STEP test.

State testing was moved from the fall to the spring this year to assess what students have learned in the current school year rather than assess what was learned the previous year. The test is also designed to more effectively measure student growth with current Michigan standards.

This is the sixth year for late start dates in Dearborn.  The time is used by staff to work on school improvement plans, collaborate with colleagues, and/or accomplish other tasks related to improving instruction and meeting the school’s academic goals for the year.

Unrelated to the late start cancellation but equally important to clarify is that all schools will be open as scheduled on May 5, 2015.

The State of Michigan will hold a special election on May 5 and, as with most communities in the state, schools in Dearborn will once again be used as polling locations.  Schools will remain open during the May 5, election.

Thank you!
