School districts in Wayne County have placed a ballot proposal on the November ballot to provide added funding for their schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal”. A recent state study on school funding concluded that the state is under funding schools, particularly students at-risk and English language learners. In Wayne County, we have more students living in poverty and eligible for food aid than most counties in our state. And the English Language learner population has grown from 20,000 students to 30,000 students in just five years.
